"Dog, Dogs, Dogs!"
Artist: 18 ROWE MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS LED BY TEACHER / ARTIST DAVID LOCHTIE

Dedicated: June 9, 2005
Through a partnership between Clackamas County Dog Services, FIDO and the Arts Action Alliance of Clackamas County, students at Rowe Middle School are showing off their art skills and the bland exterior of the County Dog Shelter got a cheerful facelift.
The mural was commissioned by FIDO and Clackamas County Dog Services, and facilitated by the Arts Action Alliance of Clackamas County (AKA Clackamas County Arts Alliance). All construction and painting materials were donated by Lowe's Home Center in Clackamas County.
Eighteen students in Art Teacher Dave Lochtie's class at North Clackamas Schools' Rowe Middle School worked on the 5x24-foot mural for eight weeks. Each student was encouraged to design and paint a dog of their choice.
The Arts Alliance describes the mural as a "lively vision of anthropomorphized dogs, depicted in whimsical and sometimes humorous settings. Now," she adds "when folks pull into the parking lot of the shelter to potentially adopt an animal, they are greeted with witty, upbeat images of dogs having fun.
"We're so pleased to be part of this great partnership that supports the talent of the young people in our community and adds a brighter, warmer look to the entrance of the county's dog shelter," said FIDO President Michael Moises. |
